Last year I visited Tretiakov Gallery – a museum of Russian pre-revolutionary and soviet art. In this museum there is the great collection of pictures and icons collected by Pavel Michajlovich Tretiakov. Vasnetsov’s and Surikov’s pictures were especially memorable… I was amazed by the extraordinary color and vitality of these works of art. For example, when viewing Levitan's pictures I had a desire to appear for a while in the places, which were painted on the canvas, to breathe the fresh air and the fragrance of pine resin and red strawberries. The landscape seemed to be a magical vision. Moonlight illuminated green lawn by silver light reflecting in the river surface of the pearl stars. You could notice that the bright sunlight of the morning and the light of the setting sun could give totally different shades of trees, lakes, grass, and all that surrounds us. On the canvases of the artist everything revived, from rain drizzling over the cutting in the forest, to the little velvet mushroom, which was hiding in the grass, drenched by summer rays of the burning sun. If you looked carefully, we could see among the crystal-clear water and soft algae, game of bright fish and fussy species. Warm note in the landscapes maked the invisible presence of the person. Levitan's paintings show the beauty and charm of Russian nature, hide many secrets, warmth and kindness. A talented artist wanted people to love and save green world.
